The Distributed Systems Group of the Public University of Navarre was founded in 1994 in order to organize the research efforts of its members and to provide means of technological transference of the obtained results to the society.
The research of the group has been financed both by means of competitive research projects (Gobern of Navarre, Science and Technology Ministery, European Union) and by means of agreements with administrations and companies, among which we will briefly point out Iberdrola, Arteche, IPS, GM Vending, SIGMA, Volkswagen, CEIN, Retena, Cityhall of Pamplona, Planetarium of Pamplona, University-Company Foundation...
The GSD offers both consultant and software engineering services:
- Specification, analysis, design and implementation of software products.
- Development of internet applications.
- Database analysis and design.
- Performance analysis of information systems.
- Middleware for fail-tolerant, replicated and high availavility systems.
- Design, development and implementation of multimedia CD/DVDs.
- Design and package of didactic material for online teaching.
- Design and modeling of 3D virtual scenarios. Study and development of virtual reality applications.
- Pattern and text recognition.
- Implantation of paralel and distributed computing systems: paralel algorithms, clusters and grids.
- Online and face-to-face training in software engineering, graphics and multimedia.
The GSD has at its dispoal laboratories and equipment that allow to tackle all the software development steps. In particular, we have available several platforms (Unix, GNU/Linux, Windows, MacOS) and different network dispositives that allow to configure differnt network arquitectures (intranet, extranet, clusters, grid, peer-to-peer...) as well as different database management systems (Oracle, SQLServer, DB2, PostgreSQL) and software engineering tools (Rational Suite, MS-Project). The group has also an full-equiped laboratoy of multimedia and graphics with both comercial and open-source tools (3DMaxStudio, Director, Photoshop, Premiere, GIMP, POVRAY) and equipment for the development of last generation user interfaces.
